Something for the Numb

about

I wrote this about the day after the last federal election. I couldn't finish it with hope until later that year when I attended my first School Strike for Climate. If you were there, thanks for helping me finish this song.

lyrics

The world is made of paper
I can fit it in my fist
Start a fire with it later
They’ll find another leader
Who won’t fix the problem either
Remind myself to breathe

I’ve been stuck for ages
Seven wardrobe changes
On this train for ages
Trying to get off

All my friends are famous
Losing them to strangers
All the world's a stage
Why don’t we get off

I need, something, something for the numb
I need, something, something, something, something
I can’t see who you’ve become
I need, something, something, something, something

Nothing ever changes
If you can’t trust strangers
Pure rage at that age
See how they turn up

Facing all their faces
Filling up the spaces
Riding on their wave
Gave me reason to wake up

I need, something, something for the numb
I need, something, something, something, something
I can’t see who you’ve become
I need, something, something, something, something

It looks an ounce but it feels a ton
I need something, anyone?

After launching her debut EP Paper Doll in 2021 (formerly Rosie Jones) she’s matured her sound into a purer expression of her Celtic and European background. ... more
